North Ayrshire Council has awarded a contract to construct the Millport coastal flood protection scheme worth an estimated £35.61 million+ in total.

Scope of the work involves the construction of offshore breakwater and onshore flood walls.
The requirement for a coastal flood protection scheme for Millport was included within the Ayrshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Plan 2015 and 2016 respectively.
The national Flood Risk Management Strategy identified a Flood Prevention Scheme for Millport Coastal as having a national priority rating of 10 of the 42 schemes.
The final agreed preferred option, which has been developed by Royal HaskoningDHV, will provide protection for up to 124 properties on the island in a 1 in 200 years flood event.
Estimated timescale for construction is 18 months.
